These stunning pink tourmaline cabochons are bezel-set in my signature 18k rich green gold alloy with 18k granulation in a starburst around the outside. These lovely 18k gold french-wire earrings have a safety catch. Classic, elegant, and understated. But that color, though! And do you think I took enough pictures? I love the play of light on the gold granules.
Granulation is an ancient fusing process utilized by the Etruscans and Mycenaeans for thousands of years. I alloy 24k gold down to a very specific rich gold 18k and create tiny granules, wires, and sheet. I place these granules with a 000 paint brush and then carefully heat them using a mouth torch to the point of fusing. Each sphere is connected by a tiny tangent of metal creating a sleek and beautiful surface.
These are a nice weight and are very wearable.
