Tanzanite and Seafoam Green Tourmaline Granulated Earrings
Blue Tanzanites! These terrific blue tanzanite cabochons are bezel-set in a Fine Silver granulation with a Seafoam Green faceted Tourmaline bezel-set at the bottom. Two dangles linked together to create a long and elegant pop of color. These are relatively lightweight and have a sterling silver french wire.
Granulation is a controlled fusing process that has been utilized for thousands of years. I melt 999.99% Fine Silver to create granules and wire. The granules are then individually placed and fused with a mouth torch to the disk. For this disc, the blue tanzanite was selected from my gem stash for its bluest blue color. I cut a seat for the stone in the center after the granulation was completed and hand hammered the bezel-setting to capture the cabochons.
These granulated dangles were given a dark patina to accentuate the granules, which were polished and then cleaned with a brass brush to achieve this finish.
