These Rutile Quartz cabochons are bezel-set in a Classical Fine Silver granulation design . I love making these pieces. They are so meditative to make. These great Rutile Qaurtz dangles are large shimmery cabochons!
Granulation is a controlled fusing process that has been utilized for thousands of years. I melt 999.99% Fine Silver to create granules and wire. The granules are then individually placed and fused with a mouth torch to the oval setting. For this pair, the Rutile Quartz cabochons were selected from my gem stash for their shimmery stabs of rutile color through the heart of the juicy quartz! I cut a seat for the stone after the granulation is completed and I use a hammer and punch on the bezel-setting to capture the cabochons.
