These sweet rainbow moonstone cabochons are bezel-set in 18k gold with 18k granulation around the outside. These are 18k gold post earrings with a 14k gold ear nut as well as a soft plastic ear nut so you don’t get poked because I worry about you! Classical granulation but unique and understated. And Rainbow Moonstones!
Granulation is an ancient fusing process utilized for thousands of years by the Etruscans and Mycenaeans. I alloy 24k gold down to 22k and 18k gold and create tiny granules of various sizes. I place these granules with a 000 paint brush and then carefully heat using a mouth torch to the point of fusing. Each sphere is connected by a tangent of metal creating a sleek and beautiful surface.
These are tiny. Lightweight and very wearable.
